Our Dutch roots

Hilbert and I got to know each other at the Ontario Agricultural College in the early 1960s. I even visited his parents' place with him, likely in 1964. We were both of Dutch descent, though from different provinces. Hilbert started correspondence with a Girl still living in the old country. He got quite serious about her. Her name was Janneke. When I was going to visit my parents for Christmas and New year's at the end of 1964, I convinced him to let me take Janneke for a date. So she and I went to a movie in Arnhem, where she worked as a nurse. At the end of the evening, I wanted to give her a kiss on behalf of Hilbert, but no go. Of course I gave Hilbert a glowing report over her. And as they say, the rest is history. Sorry to hear of your passing, Hilbert. It was good knowing you. And my sincere condolences to Janneke and the children.
