Statira Mertens ~ Peacefully at Livingstone Manor, Listowel, on Friday, November 17, 2017,
Mrs. Statira Marguerite (McDonald) Mertens of Listowel, in her 100th year.

Loving wife of the late Clifford Mertens (1992) whom she married in 1941. Dear mother of Ethel and Charlie Corry of Listowel, and Alice and Barry Jones of Shelburne. Proud grandmother of Peter Corry and his wife Pam Winter of Calgary, Alberta, Jennifer and John Judge of Listowel, Alyssa and Murray Kaye of Palmerston, and Anita and Brian DeJong of Lake Charles. Loved great-grandmother of Ruby, Josie, Jaydn, Ella, Calysta, Chloe, Rayleen, and Nicole. Also survived by sister-in-law Enid McDonald and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents William and Ethel McDonald, brothers Kenneth (Velma), Wilfred (Hazel), Norman, Keith, and Leslie (Ruth), brothers-in-law Fred Mertens (Rena), and sisters-in-law Margaret Byers (Alan) and Elva Berry (Oscar).

Statira was born in Thedford, ON and moved at the age of 5 to Weston. After her marriage she took the responsibility of creating a family home seriously and loved working with her hands. Later she worked in a floral shop. In 1975 Statira and Cliff retired to Listowel.

A celebration of Statira’s life will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel, on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Don McCallum officiating. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Memorial donations to Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation or Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel would be appreciated, and may be made through the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel.
