Obituary for Murray Kerr

Murray Kerr
Murray ‘Muffy’ Kerr ~ Of Pattaya, Thailand, and formerly of Molesworth, Robert Murray James Kerr, died suddenly as a result of a motorcycle accident in Thailand, on Friday, June 23rd, 2017 at the age of 57.

Murray is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Urairat (Mamo) Kerr, and sons who were the most important part of his life, Jason Kerr and Ty Kerr, all of Pattaya, Thailand. Loved by his parents James and Jean-Anne (Doig) Kerr of Listowel, his brothers and sisters-in-law John and Diane Kerr of Listowel, Tom and Lynn Kerr of Kincardine, Allan and Leesa Kerr of Gorrie, and Kevan and Johanna Kerr of Newmarket, and his many nephews and nieces.

Murry was born in Listowel, Ontario, and began his career in Alberta in the oil industry which led to him working in many different exotic areas around the world. In 1990, he helped put out the oil fires in Kuwait that Sadam Hussein set after the 1st Gulf War. He continued working in the oil & gas sector offshore Brunei, then Oman where he changed from the rig side to the service side as a directional driller with Baker Hughes. He later moved to Sperry Sun and eventually Halliburton. Murray then changed to well site supervision, first in Australia and later in Sudan.

Widely respected in his field and by co-workers, one could say he was in the top 1% of the world’s skilled oil people.

Murray found Thailand around 1990 and has called Pattaya his home ever since. He was active with the Jackalope Charity Golf Tournament every year. He was also a member of the Jesters MC and involved with their charity work with the Care 4 Kids charity that the Jesters have supported for so many years. Murray was also an avid Maple Leafs fan.

Murray had a great sense of humour and will be fondly remembered for that. He was a devoted husband and father and an avid golfer. He passed his love of golf on to his sons Jason and Ty whom are both attending Universities in North America.

“Muffy” was one of the original characters, known and loved by all in his family and his local community.

Friendly, open and approachable, he was non-judgmental of anyone he met. A devoted husband and a proud, loving father, he left an indelible impression and will be sorely missed.

A Celebration of Murray’s life and love will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel, on Saturday, July 29th at 2:00 p.m. Visitation one hour prior and reception to follow. Rev. Ralph Dwarika officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to an Education Fund for Jason and Ty, (cheques made payable to ‘Jason Kerr’) appreciated, and may be made through the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel (519-291-4840).
