Alice Bakelaar ~ At her home in Listowel, surrounded by her family, Mrs. Alice ( Aafke ) Bakelaar (nee Greidanus) was taken home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Monday, May 1, 2017 in her 84th year.

Loving and supporting wife of Neil (Cornelius) Bakelaar.

Alice was predeceased by her infant granddaughter Allison Bakelaar, and by her brothers Leo, Jim, and John Greidanus , her sister Wilma Holland, brothers-in-law Albert Valkenburg, Bill Bakelaar, Peter Bakelaar.

Alice was born in Tzum, Friesland in the Netherlands and immigrated in 1951 with her family
to Clinton, Ontario. She was married to Neil Bakelaar December 26, 1958. They opened their first jewellery
store in Tavistock, and in 1967 relocated to Listowel, where they successfully ran Bakelaar Jewellers.
They raised four sons and were active in community and church. Alice was passionate about her business, but she was even more passionate about her family, and her walk with her Lord.

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself; that where I am, there may you be also.” John 14:1-4.

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Thursday May 4th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Listowel (please note change of service location) on Friday May 5th at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Fred Folkerts officiating.

Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.
