Obituary for Bea Ott

Bea Ott
Bea Ott ~ at Caressant Care, Harriston on Friday, February 13, 2015, Mrs. Beatrice Irene (Matthews) Ott, formerly of Listowel, in her 96th year.

Beloved wife of the late Alvin Ott. Dear mother of Joyce and Leonard Schmidt of Carthage, and Susan Rabideau of Kitchener. Grandmother of Jeff and Bonnie Schmidt of St. Jacobs, Brenda and Dave Askett of Carthage, Diane Schalk of Listowel, Ryan and Michelle Rabideau of Kitchener, and Sesha Rabideau and Seb Gagnon of Ottawa. Also sadly missed by her twelve great-grandchildren, and her sister Phyllis Ott.

Predeceased by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Edgar Ott, Clarence and Beatrice Mehring, and George and Marion Schneider.

Bea was born in Wallace Township in 1919 to Isaac and Viola (Horn) Matthews. In 1940, she married Alvin, and together they farmed in Wallace Township until 1967. After moving to Listowel, Bea worked at Bea Smith’s Sewing Centre for many years. In addition to the large garden that she always had at the farm, Bea also enjoyed sewing and quilting, and continued to do alterations until she moved into Hamilton place.

Alvin and Bea loved to dance, and had many wonderful times with friends at biweekly dances at the Palmerston Legion and many other venues. When there wasn’t a dance to be found, there was always a game of Lost Heir to be played. Alvin and Bea enjoyed their trailer in Wasaga Beach, mostly because of the great friends they had there. She and Alvin were members at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where Bea belonged to the E.L.W.

Bea was a loving and available babysitter, and made a quilt for each new baby in the family. On quiet days, she faithfully watched Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Lawrence Welk. Bea leaves behind countless happy memories for her family and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Listowel on Monday, February 16th at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Memorial donations to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church would be appreciated.
