Obituary for Rudy Nauta

Rudy Nauta ~ passed away peacefully with his family at his side, at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Thursday, December 19, 2013 in his 71st year.

Beloved husband of Christina (Marsh) Nauta.

Loving father of Bill and Tammy Nauta, Brent and Cindy Nauta, and Peter Nauta and his fiancee Becky Courtney, all of Listowel. Proud grandpa of Aubrey, Kennedy, Ben, Jenna, Lucy, and Alissa.

Brother of Ann and John VanderVeen of Burlington, Johanna and Ron Harrod of Stoney Creek, John and Carol Nauta of Dundas, Suzanne Nauta of Kitchener, Jenny and Gerry Owen of Penticton, B.C., Yvonne and Doug Trelford of Tara, and Richard and Lori Nauta of Arthur.

He will be remembered by his brothers-in-law Gordon and Charlene Marsh, and Robert and Gay Marsh, all of Hamilton, and by his many nieces and nephews.

Rudy was born in Nyland, Friesland, Netherlands on October 31, 1943 to Willem and Jantje (Werkhoven). The family immigrated to Canada on the second boat from the Netherlands after the war in 1947 to live near Waterdown, Ontario. Rudy married Christina in 1972 and purchased a dairy farm near Carthage a year later. He continued to raise horses and beef cattle following the dispersal of his dairy herd in 1984. Rudy worked as a truck driver and shipper/receiver for approximately 20 years at Ellis Packaging in Guelph. Rudy enjoyed working with his horses and was an avid sports fan using his talents as a hockey coach and executive member in Milverton and Listowel minor hockey associations. Rudy was a dedicated Elder at Knox Presbyterian Church in Listowel and participated in the 2006 Knox mission to El Salvador.
Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel, on Monday, December 23rd at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Don McCallum officiating.

Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Memorial donations to Presbyterian World Service and Development, Knox Presbyterian Church, or Listowel Memorial Hospital would be appreciated.
