Obituary for Henk Van Dorp

Henk Van Dorp
Henk (Hendrik) Van Dorp ~ Peacefully at his home in Listowel, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, in his 86th year.

Beloved husband of 54 years and dearest friend of Beatrice Van Dorp. Loved and sadly missed by his children Susan and Norm Bedard of Monkton, Debra and Peter Herron of Newtonville, Hank and Crystal Van Dorp of Auburn. Loving Grandpa and Poppa to Isaac, Risa and Benjamin Bedard, Amy, Jake and Kari Herron and Bailey Van Dorp.

Survived by brother Dirk van Dorp and sister Nel van Eeden Petersman in Holland and sisters-in-law Angelina Orrey, Marg Minto, Silvia Fornataro and Sue Fornataro in Canada, as well as many nieces and nephews in both countries.

Henk was predeceased by his parents Willem and Petronella (van der Eijk) and by one sister and ten brothers.

Henk immigrated to Canada in 1953 and became a proud Canadian citizen in 1969. He pursued his passion for agriculture and was a well-respected dairy farmer in the Bowmanville area.

For many years Henk was an active member of the Bowmanville Men’s Canadian Club, the Bowmanville Lions Club and later the Atwood Lions Club.

Following retirement, Henk and Beatrice relocated to Listowel where they hosted Dorterra Bed & Breakfast for ten years. Henk greatly enjoyed his Coffee Club mornings and fun times spent with Trinity “train” friends.

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

The funeral service will be held at Trinity United Church, Listowel, on Saturday at 11:00 am with Rev. Steven Cox officiating.
